November 23, 2024 – The Rogationists - St. Matthew Province, formally welcomed the second year of the Triennium of Preparation for their 50th year of presence in the Philippines with the opening of the Bukas-Palad Year, celebrated under the theme “Grace of Charity and Care for Nature” at the Rogationist College-Silang, Cavite. A motorcade and art exhibit commenced the day, showcasing the unity and talents of those involved in the program. The solemn celebration of the Holy Mass was presided by Most Rev. Reynaldo Evangelista, D.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Imus, with some Rogationist clerics concelebrating.
In his warm welcome, Fr. Wesley Taguibao, RCJ, RC-Silang’s rector, set the day’s tone. Fr. Orville Cajigal, RCJ, Provincial Superior, followed with a heartfelt message emphasizing the call for social and climate justice, resonating deeply with Pope Francis’ Laudato Si and Laudate Deum. To further accompany the community’s reflection, Fr. Ronaldo Masilang, RCJ, Councilor for the Service of Charity and Mission, presented a catechesis on the Charity of St. Hannibal, the founder of the Rogationists. His insights reminded attendees of the transformative power of selfless giving.
After a lunch break, the energy was reignited by captivating performances from the RC students. The event was graced even further with talks by Fr. Samuel Agcarcar, SVD, and Fr. Teofilo Perey, SVD, who unpacked the wisdom of Pope Francis’ Laudato Si.
This celebration remembered the Rogationist legacy in the Philippines, but more so significantly, inspired and urged those present to live out the grace of charity and environmental care in their everyday lives—a fitting start to the Bukas-Palad Year. Awarding winners for the Digital Art and Canvass Painting Contest concluded the celebration.
