Cabanatuan City - On December 9, 2024, another joyous occasion marked the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. Rev. Fr. Joseph Bryan Perez Balagtas, RCJ, a newly ordained priest of the Rogationists of the Heart of Jesus, celebrated his Thanksgiving Mass at Cathedral - Parish of St. Nicholas of Tolentino to celebrate the gift of priestly vocation.
The celebration began with a motorcade at 4:30 PM, followed by the celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 5:30 PM. Upon arrival, friends, benefactors, and fellow Rogationists who joined were welcomed with merienda.
In the Eucharist, Fr. Ariel, the spiritual director of Fr. Joseph Bryan, delivered the homily highlighting the earthly signs and symbols that led to Fr. Joseph's divine calling. He emphasized the interconnectedness of human and divine experiences, citing the example of Mary's calling. Fr. Ariel explained daily encounters offer opportunities to encounter the Lord. Cabanatuan, a place of special significance for Fr. Joseph, was described as a "Caban (treasury) ng tuwa (joy)," a treasury of joy. Fr. Ariel underscored the importance of one's heart as a treasure trove and explored the mysterious and miraculous aspects of the priestly vocation. He emphasized the qualities essential for a priest: conviction, commitment, and compassion, which lead to a deeper communion with Jesus.
Fr. John Lucas, RCJ, the Provincial Vicar of the Rogationist - St. Matthew Province, expressed gratitude to all who attended the Thanksgiving Mass, acknowledging the communal effort requisite to raise a priest. Before the final blessing, the image of St. Hannibal Mary Di Francia was given to the parish cathedral, a gesture of gratitude from the Congregation to the Diocese.
Dinner followed, marking the end of a momentous day. We continue to pray to the Lord of the Mystical Harvest, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, for the calling of more holy laborers to His Vineyard.
